Kathryn Rudlin, LCSW, who is a former writer for Verywell Mind has credentials as a mental health professional, writer, and parent. Kathryn has worked with troubled teens in a variety of settings, including juvenile probation, psychiatric hospitals, foster care, group homes, residential treatment programs, diversion, and wilderness therapy. Her interest in this age group initially began after watching a “60 Minutes” episode on teen runaways and then volunteering at a shelter for kids living on the streets.

For the last seven-plus years, she has worked as a therapist in private practice in San Diego, CA, specializing in counseling and education for daughters with “ghost mothers,” or mothers who are emotionally disconnected.

Kathryn has been a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Endometriosis Association, and the Unity Center of San Diego. As a professional writer, she has published numerous articles on the topic of troubled teens as well as learning materials for mental health professionals.

Her book “Ghost Mothers: Healing From the Pain of a Mother Who Wasn’t Really There” was inspired by Kathryn’s own experience growing up. 

Education

Kathyrn Rudlin has been licensed as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in California since 1988. She completed her Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Denver, after obtaining a BA in Psychology from The American University in Washington, DC. Kathryn completed post-graduate courses in chemical dependency, family therapy, and clinical supervision.
