Jean Kim, MD, MA is a psychiatrist. She is currently a Medical Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and has worked as Chief of Mental Health Clearances at the U.S. State Department and as Unit Chief of the Women’s Program at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester Division. She has prior clinical and research experience in academic, military, and government settings. She has written lay pieces for The Washington Post, The Daily Beast, Psychology Today, Salon, The American Scholar, etc. and academic pieces in JAMA and The New England Journal of Medicine. She also has commented on mental health issues for NPR, The New York Times, BBC News, The Boston Globe, Slate, and more.

Education

She has an MA in Writing from Johns Hopkins, a BA in English from Yale, MD from Virginia Commonwealth University. She completed her psychiatry residency in 2004 at Mount Sinai in NYC. She is Board Certified by the ABPN in General Psychiatry. She was previously on the psychiatry faculty as an assistant professor at George Washington, Cornell, and Mount Sinai.
